“A common misconception is that those who have lost a loved one will feel better if they just forget them, and so friends of the bereaved often believe it’s a good idea to avoid talking about them at all.
But grief is not about forgetting, because those left behind will never forget that their loved one died. Grief is a long process of remembering, as well as learning to live without that person’s presence in their life anymore.
So, when given the chance, acknowledge who your friend lost, say their loved one’s name, and if possible, share memories you have of their loved one.
