Never the Same

"So many friends misunderstand the grief of losing a child. One of the first questions they want answered is, "When are you going to get over this? When will you be back to your old self?" Sadly, the answer is never. We'll never get over the death of our child, nor will we ever be our "old self" again. Why? Because when our child died, a part of us went with our child. It's impossible to explain to others. It's something a parent understands, though. We never feel "whole" following the loss of a child because such a big part of our heart is now missing. We will grieve the loss of our child all the days of our life. Grieving is an extension of the love we have for our child. It's not something to try to hide or be ashamed of. Grief is part of our lives now. We eventually learn to live within our grief, but we will never, ever be the same person again."
